Deceptive Drinking (Calories in Drinks)

Few calorie-counters are surprised to learn that a cheeseburger has 359 calories and 20 grams of fat. They may even be prepared for the news that an accompanying shake has 340 calories. Yet they may very well be astonished to learn that a bottle or can of their favorite beverage can contain nearly as many calories as a cheeseburger or a shake—even though the information appears on the container.
Why do otherwise-savvy dieters get duped? Because many containers hold two or more servings, not one, and beverage labels often list the calorie content for only one serving, which is usually eight ounces.
Who drinks only half of a bottle of Snapple or other beverage and saves the other half for the next day? Hardly anyone. So in essence, we are fooled even though the information is right before our eyes, albeit not readily obvious.
Here you’ll find the calorie totals for some of the most popular canned and bottled beverages—the whole thing, not just eight ounces.
